Gore's Sign
Description: Sign. Plywood panels with letters cut out to form a stencil. 'GORE'S'. Originally backed with red painted board to highlight the letters on the white painted sign. Under the white paint was cream and then dark brown varnish. Removed from over the top of front door of Gore's Rock shop, Castle Street prior to demolition.
Gore's was a family confectionary firm located in Douglas, with shops in Strand Street and Castle Street. Gore’s manufactured sweets including Manx Knobs and was also famous for its sticks of rock with the Three Legs of Mann in the middle. Gore’s Rock Shop in Castle Street, Douglas finally closed its doors in 1987, as part of the redevelopment of Douglas town centre with the new Strand shopping centre.
