Woollen Patchwork Quilt
Date made: 19th century
Maker: Member of Faragher Family
Description: A reversible woollen patchwork quilt roughly pieced together from tailors' or dressmakers' clippings, including pieces of hand-woven woollen fabric. Both sides are randomly pieced with no discernable pattern emerging on either side. The top side of the quilt is made of dark blue and purple fabrics. There are several different types of woollen fabrics of varying weights, some coarse, some fine, together with cotton fabrics. The quilt appears to have been repaired several times with several patches appliquéd over the original fabrics.
The reverse side of the quilt is predominantly pieced together with unbleached fabrics along with a large red and green checked blanket. The quilt appears to contain an unbleached blanket as filling, though this may be an earlier layer of backing fabric.
The quilt is from the home of Miss Abigail Faragher, Earystane Smithy, Arbory.
