Goldcrest

Description: Manx name: Ushag y fuygh (bird of the timber).

This bird, the smallest species in the British Isles, is commonly observed (or more often heard) in coniferous plantations around the Isle of Man. The year-round resident goldcrest population is joined in spring and autumn by migrating birds, stopping off to spend the summer here or passing through on their way to winter quarters.

Goldcrests are recorded at the Calf of Man Bird Observatory in large numbers and an average of 900 birds are ringed annually by the ornithological wardens.
