Description: A framed and glazed charcoal sketch of a middle-aged man, side profile of head. Signed bottom right hand corner 'Mr G., C.Felkel'.

'Mr G.' identified as Fritz Gottschalk (internee at Hutchinson Camp, Douglas) identification by Dr K.E. Hinrichsen on 6 April 1993 (fellow internee). Fritz Gottschalk (1880-1945) was a store owner from Hanover, died in the USA. Fred Godshaw, his son, has confirmed the identity and himself owns another portrait of his father by Felkel.

Fritz Gottschalk appears on the 1939 Register at 54 Woodhall Lane, Welwyn Garden City, occupation Retired Department Store Owner. There is a Home Office Index card for him with DOB 1880 and same address, which records release on 30 January 1941.

Carl Felkel (1896-1984) was an Austrian painter interned in Hutchinson Camp.
