Poyllvaaish pendant

Date made: Mesolithic: 8000-4000 BC

Description: This is the oldest known piece of manufactured jewellery from the Island. It is a fragment of an oyster shell that has had a hole pierced in one end to form a pendant. Though very simple, it must have been a prized possession over six thousand years ago.
