Shop sign from 'Fred Bridson The Hat Centre'

Date made: 20th century

Maker: unknown

Description: This sign came from Fred Bridson's shop, 'The Hat Centre' in Douglas.

It is made of back-painted glass, with applied mirrored gold lettering.

Fred Bridson's hat shop was a family-owned business located on Stand Street. Many people still remember the giant hat which hung outside. The premises were demolished to make way for the Strand Centre development, a victim of changing fashion tastes and new trends in retailing, which saw the decline in small family businesses and the growth of large department stores.
