Uniform of an officer in the Southern Manx Volunteers

Date made: early 19th century

Description: South Manx Volunteer tunic 1803-1816. Officer, Light Co. light infantry cuffs but with epaulettes. Red melton cloth with green facings and brass buttons.

The epaulets are integral to the uniform, being sewn on. The buttons are domed, with the text 'Quoqunque Jeceris Stabit'.

This object appears in the Manx Museum Trustees report of 31 December 1907 (item JB27) where it is described as a Royal Manx Fencibles tunic. However the colour of the facings and the lack of the word Fencibles on the buttons would seem to indicate that it is a Volunteers tunic.
