Naval officer's coat worn by Captain John Quilliam

Date made: early 19th century

Description: Naval officer's coat worn by Captain John Quilliam, possibly at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Dark blue naval officer's coat with white facings. Gold braid to edges and cuffs. Epaulets with rank insignia.

The back of the coat has been punctured a number of times and the holes correspond with bloodstains on the interior, suggestive of battle damage.
