Glenfaba Hoard Dymn Coin

Date made: deposited c.AD 1035

Description: Hiberno-Scandinavian Phase I imitation of long cross penny struck in the name of Dymn. +DYMNROE+MNEIZ +ENI/RIHE/ONIL/OEIII
Wedge cross on neck, pellet-swirl behind head. No pellets in reverse quarters, but could be Phase II A little worn or lightly struck at one edge.

Numismatic Information:
The presence of ten die-duplicates, the style of drapery and the use of a decorative "J" motif similar to that on nos. 2004-0123/314-15, suggest that these are Phase II derivatives of the Phase I Thrymn series. The reverse inscription derives from coins such as SCBI Copenhagen V 22-3, SCBI Belfast II 27 and SCBI BM 30 (all Thrymn coins). Cf. also nos.2004-0123/ 89-90 above.
