Gone With The Wind
Date made: 1940
Artist: Miller, Harold 'Dusty'
Description: Satirical cartoon drawn for Isle of Man Times newspaper. Shows a soldier going on leave, 15th on haversack. This is a reference to the Manx Regiment (15th Light Anti Aircraft Regiment).
The cartoon appeared on 26 October 1940 at the same time as a number of men of the regiment were home on leave. The reference appears to be to the days of their leave blowing away as quickly as autumn leaves. There are also veiled references in the newspaper to their leave being extended by one day and it may be that they were held up by high winds and unable to reach home.
