The cigarette revenue
Date made: 1941
Artist: Miller, Harold 'Dusty'
Description: Satirical cartoon drawn for Isle of Man Times newspaper. Shows Isle of Man revenue man calling at cigarette kiosk to collect massive cigarette revenue.
This cartoon appeared on 14 June 1941, with caption "Have you any cigarettes Miss?" "Oh yes, I have quite a big cigarette for you". An article in the same newspaper indicates that the Manx Government budget that year was in surplus, simply because more people were smoking because of the pressures of the war, and so revenue from that source was unexpectedly high.
