Fort Anne Hotel Soup Dish

Description: China soup dish made by Dudson bros, Hanley, England. Front has flower decoration and monogramme of Fort Anne Hotel.

Once owned by Sir William Hillary, founder of the RNLI, Fort Anne became an hotel after his death in 1847. The hotel closed in 1974 and was demolished in 1979, later to be replaced by an office complex, similar in style to the original building.

The Fort Anne Hotel was described in a 1947 newspaper advertisement as, 'Acknowledged the Most Select Hotel on the Island .Adjoining Fort Anne Golf Links.The Ideal Hotel for a Sedate and Exclusive Holiday. Excellent Food & Wines.'
