Rushen Camp internee-made chess set
Date made: 1940-1944
Description: A hand made chess set. Full chess set of moulded, cast pieces painted white or black. They have a glossy finish, particularly the black pieces. Pieces of green felt, baize is stuck to the bases to protect them. Each set (black and white) contains a king, queen, knight, bishop, castle (rook) and 8 pawns.
Chess set made in the Rushen Internment Camp by the civilian internees. Made from a form of 'concrete'.
