Stone button mould
Description: Stone Button-Mould (?) from Aust, with letters Ob. = Obolus?.
This object appears in the Museum Trustees' report of 25 April 1929. It is stated there to be from Cronk Aust, Lezayre.There is a much fuller description:
'Somewhat similar moulds are to be seen in the British Museum, also in the London Museum, used for gold ornaments and jewellery. Mr S.M.Spinks, writing of our local examples, points out that "there are no ducts as though used for casting. The material is a hard and fine grained stone, and thin metal could be forced by light blows and pressure to receive the impression."
