Description: "There are also the remains of an ancient church upon the islet [St Michael's Isle] which is still used as consecrated ground for the interment of Catholics and shipwrecked persons, who here rest after life’s fitful fever." (Illustrated account of Mrs Emma Cram's 1842 visit to the Isle of Man, MS 13029)

One of a set of four sepia drawings of local scenery, by Sir Henry Dryden, 1853. Sir Henry Dryden, known as ‘the Antiquary,’ was an archaeologist who travelled throughout Britain and Europe in the nineteenth century. During his travels Dryden recorded buildings, historic sites and monuments, producing thousands of architectural and archaeological drawings. He visited the Isle of Man in 1853 and sketched several landmarks.
