St. Patrick's Isle Mount

Date made: Viking: 800-1265

Description: Found in an uncoffined grave of an adult, between the legs. There is a copper alloy strap end attached, and six iron nails in an organic mass. They may have been part of a box. This rectangular mount is now fragile and corroded, but was originally of high quality. Two rivets remain and an outline of raised moulding forming a frame around a panel of gilded suymmetrical loop interlace. There is no decoration on the reverse.
