Dave Molyneux's damaged motorcycle racing helmet

Date made: 2006

Maker: Arai helmets

Description: Arai Astro-R racing helmet worn by Dave Molyneux in a crash during practice for 2006 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) at Rhencullen. Molyneux was taken by helicopter to Noble's Hospital with the helmet, where a sticker was applied giving casualty details. Extensive scuffing to crown and to chin, no visor. 2006 TT scrutineering sticker which reads 'Manx Motorcycle Club' (in this year the TT was organised by the MMCC rather than the ACU.)

Dave Molyneux and his passenger Craig Hallam crashed at Rhencullen during the Thursday afternoon practice session for the 2006 TT races. Their sidecar outfit was destroyed in the resulting fire and Molyneux was unable to compete in the TT races that year due to injury. Molyneux recovered and returned to win both sidecar races at the 2007 TT.

Molyneux's crashed sidecar can be seen in the TT Gallery at the Manx Museum.
