Description: "The ruins of Peel Castle will not fail to repay every expectation formed of them; but “frowning turrets, massy walls and gloomy dungeons make the imagination of a contemplative man wholly at variance with the beauty and serenity of the spot; and he will think only of sieges, chains, torture and death.” (John Feltham, A Tour through The Island of Mann in 1797 and 1798, M 09791)
