Butter Print
Date made: mid 19th century
Description: Wooden butter-stamp. Once made, butter would be shaped using a butter print. This one belonged originally to the donors' 'grandmother Radcliffe' of Ballaslig, Andreas. She was Mrs William Christian Radcliffe (nee 'Kaneen Pherick').
William Radcliffe of Ballaslig appears in the 1881 Brown's Directory for Andreas. On the 1881 census he appears as a farmer of 6 acres, aged 79. His wife Jane was also 79. Both were born in Andreas. There is a marriage for William Radcliffe recorded in Andreas in 1824. The bride is recorded as Jane Kinnead [a mistranscription?]
