Ancient Cross thrown down and now lying in Kirk Braddan Churchyard in the Isle of Man

Description: Handwritten note states: "The circular part of the cross about 9 feet diameter. The height of the foot nearly the same. This cross is in the Manks language called Crosh ny Kiare Thoul or the Cross of the Four Holes. It is greatly defaced."

Moses Griffith (1749-1819) was a Welsh draughtsman, engraver and water colourist. In 1769 he entered the service of Thomas Pennant of Downing, Flintshire (antiquary and natural historian). Griffiths provided illustrations to most of Pennant's books. In 1774 Griffith made a tour of the Isle of Man with Thomas Pennant and Captain Francis Grose (antiquary and topographical draughtsman).
