Gold Manx Electric Railway director's pass

Description: This pass was carried by a director of the Manx Electric Railway, probably as a fob on a watch chain. Directors and major shareholders were entitled to free travel, and the director would have shown the pass upon boarding.
It is made of 18 carat gold, in the form of a shield, with three legs on the obverse and an electric tramcar on the reverse.
The Manx Electric Railway runs to Ramsey from the Derby Castle in Douglas. It began life in 1893 as the Douglas and Laxey Coast Electric Tramway, before changing its name in 1905. Like many other parts of the Manx transport network, the railway grew up in response to the needs of tourists, but has become a tourist attraction in its own right.
