Woollen Striped Quilt
Date made: late 19th century
Maker: Member of Mylroie Family
Place made: Laxey
Description: A striped patchwork quilt made from plain and tweed suit fabric. Each stripe is made of black, green, navy and brown rectangular and square blocks, some of which have discoloured. The quilt is backed with a dark blue, indigo dyed woollen blanket with no edge binding.
The quilt is machine-quilted in a zig-zag pattern. There is a thin layer of filling, thought to be fleece.
The quilt has small ties fastened along one side which may be for hanging or securing in place as a mattress cover. The patchwork quilt is thought to have been made using tailors' remnants, possibly by a member of the family who donated the quilt to the Manx Museum, Messrs Mylroie of Laxey, who were tailors.
