St George's Church, Douglas

Description: “The window over the altar is painted glass, the workmanship of the present Bishop and his Lady. The organ in this church was formerly the property of the celebrated Handel.” (Samuel Dukinfield Swarbreck, Tour through the Isle of Man by Captain William Latham, July 1815, M 07398)

Written on the sketch is: "Sketch of St George's Church, Douglas with the land mark on Douglas Head. It is said the organ in this church belonged to the celebrated Handel. Will Latham August 1822"

Sketch by Captain William Latham of Liverpool. In July 1815 Captain William Latham made a tour of the Isle of Man with Mr William Gerard Walmesley Esq of Liverpool, Mr James Leigh of Liverpool and Mr Ralph Greenough of Wigan. Latham made many sketches of the Island during his visit.
