Description: "The present ruinous state of the building was owing to the malice of some unlucky demons, who, for want of better employment, amused themselves with throwing off the roof, which frolick they so often repeated, that at length it was abandoned." (Francis Grose, Antiquities of England and Wales, 1773-1777, M 02523)
On the sketch is written: "Memorandum sketch of an ancient Kirk now in ruins situated in the Vale of St John's, Isle of Man. Will Latham, 14 September 1815."
Sketch by Captain William Latham of Liverpool. In July 1815 Captain William Latham made a tour of the Isle of Man with Mr William Gerard Walmesley Esq of Liverpool, Mr James Leigh of Liverpool and Mr Ralph Greenough of Wigan. Latham made many sketches of the Island during his visit.
