Castle Rushen

Date made: 1st July 1815

Description: “We breakfasted at the George Inn kept by Downes. This Inn has the character of being a good one in point of attendance and excellent cookery though there is nothing in its external appearance that would tempt one to give it a preference…The Maitre d’hotel Mr Downes is an elderly Englishman. He was for a long time a Serjeant in the Manchester or 42 and served with that Regiment along with Mr Taylor of Balladoole near Castletown.” (Samuel Dukinfield Swarbreck, Tour through the Isle of Man by Captain William Latham, July 1815, M 07398)

On the sketch is written: "Rough sketch of Castle Rushin Castletown Isle of Man. Taken from a room on the second floor of the George Inn, Castletown." (1st July 1815)
