Cotton Striped Quilt
Date made: c.1860
Place made: Laxey
Description: A cotton patchwork quilt with alternating pink and blue stripes. The pink may have once been red, but has faded over the years. The quilt is made of a variety of gingham, striped, and floral patterned cotton dress fabrics. Each corner of the quilt has a panel of blue striped fabric.
The quilt is backed with a blue gingham cotton fabric. The patchwork is hand-quilted in a zig-zag pattern and does not contain any wadding.
The quilt is thought to date from around 1860. It originally belonged to a lady from Laxey who died in the 1940s or early 1950s aged 90 and had belonged previously to her mother who was over 90 when she died.
