Description: Portrait of Ann Fine dressed as a shepherdess, with a stylised representation of Douglas Fort in the background. Born in 1733, Anne was the daughter of William Fine of Ballahot, and his wife Dorothy Christian of Milntown. She married wealthy Douglas shipping merchant Thomas Durie, which marked the joining of two important families. Her clothing and status reflects the prosperity of the merchant class in the Isle of Man in the eighteenth century.
