Ancient Stone Monuments from Ballaqueeney, Rushen
Date made: n.d.
Description: Note on reverse: "This appears to represent the ancient stone monuments from Ballaqueeney in Rushen parish (near Port St Mary): a) a pair of ogham stones found in the keeill cemetery in the 1870s; b) the 'Crosh Ballaqueeney' formerly on the keeill site but removed early 19th century to the Four Roads where it remains; c) the upper stone of a rotary quern - was this from the keeill site also?"
The painting is from a series of works by Mrs Lucy Emma Lynam, born 1834. It is thought that Lucy Emma Lynam painted the works while staying with her daughter and son-in-law on the Isle of Man. Her daughter, also called Lucy Emma, married a Manxman Sidney Alfred Pizey Kermode, who was the Reverend of Onchan (1862-1925).
