Douglas from Nunnery Howe
Date made: n.d.
Description: “The Nunnery is universally admired for its beautiful prospect; from the window up stairs, the picturesque views of great beauty." (Mrs Margaret Lee ‘Clara Lennox or Distressed Widow: a novel’ 1797, M 02965)
The painting is from a series of works by Mrs Lucy Emma Lynam, born 1834. It is thought that Lucy Emma Lynam painted the works while staying with her daughter and son-in-law on the Isle of Man. Her daughter, also called Lucy Emma, married a Manxman Sidney Alfred Pizey Kermode, who was the Reverend of Onchan (1862-1925).
