Description: "The interior of the town is clean, but the streets are for the most part narrow, some indeed more so than those of Douglas, and in many of the principle thoroughfares, a man by the help of an ordinary walking stick, may touch both together the opposite houses." (Sir George Head, A Home Tour through Various Parts of the United Kingdom, 1837, M 02445)
