Peel Castle Bead

Date made: Viking: 800-1265

Description: Fragment of large annular amber bead. Dark red orange colour, with internal cracking and crazing. The outer surface of the bead has been finished with cut and smoothed flat top and bottom. On the inside edge where the central hole for the bead would be there is a cut ridge; the vestige of where the amber was cut through to make it a bead. The original bead would probably have had a large diameter of about 30mm.
