Cotton Framed Medallion Quilt

Description: Very large cotton framed medallion patchwork quilt.

The patchwork quilt has a geometric design with a central square containing a square set as a diamond. This is surrounded by a series of alternating diamond and triangular borders with patterned bands in between. A variety of colours and patterned cottons have been used with red and yellow highlights.

The quilt is mainly backed onto a woollen backing fabric with some areas backed with a white cotton fabric. It is hand-quilted with a zig-zag quilting pattern in a white cotton thread and does not contain any filling.

This quilt was made by Elizabeth Mylecraine who died in 1820 aged 80.
