Ballateare Viking Burial Strap-distributor

Date made: Viking

Description: Made of a heavy ring around which are looped three clasps made from folded metal with plain backs but decorated on the front with lines an triangles. There are three rivets in incised circles on each clasp, and fragments of leather remain in each clasp.

It is likely that this strap-distributor and the strap-ends were most likely made in the same workshop, possibly in England.

Measurements: 53mm x 67mm x 10mm; diameter of ring 21mm, length of one clasp 32mm
