Sandstones
Description: Medium-grained; well-sorted; sub-rounded grains of primarily quartz and feldspar with occasional mafic grains and lithic fragments. Poorly cemented. No sedimentary structures. Second sample is poorly sorted (very fine- to medium-grained and occasionally granular). Similar mineralogy to first sample. Third sample is very fine-grained to pebbly with sub-rounded quartz and feldspar, plus a wide variety of lithic fragments (several identified as very fine-grained sandstones); white shell fragments. The samples are probably Quaternary (Devensian) rather than Carboniferous.
