English-style Pieced Quilt

Description: A Turkey red and white cotton patchwork quilt with a white background and red lattice design. Within each lattice diamond there is a regular shape constructed of red rectangles and squares in the centre of which is a white equal-armed cross.
The patchwork is backed with three large pieces of white cotton fabric and is hand-quilted with white cotton thread in a zig-zag pattern. The quilt contains no filling.
This quilt was made around 1860 by the aunt of the donor, Mr Dawson.
