Internee-made ship in a bottle
Date made: 1940
Description: A clear glass bottle with a cork stopper with a ship and panoramic scene inside the bottle. The panorama is of a stylised Douglas Promenade with two rows of barbed wire and a large two funnelled merchant ship in bay, flying the red ensign with two guns and possibly six pounders on the stern. The panorama shows the Tower of Refuge and Battery Pier on the left-hand side of bottle. The scene also contains a model aeroplane, which may have originally been fixed in the bottle but is now detached and loose.
The paper label in the neck of the bottle reads: 'Isle of Man - Panoramma Internment Camp - Duglas 9.10.940'
