Internee-made wooden box

Maker: Hoensbroech, Count Lothaz von und zu

Description: A handmade wooden box with a separate lid. The box has panelled sides and a lid with a bas relief three legs design carved into top of lid. The top edge of box is lined with green baize, felt fabric to create a tight fit for the lid onto the box.

The box was made and carved by Count Lothar von und zu Hoensbroech of Schloss Kellenberg near Julich, whilst he was interned in Dunluce House, Ballure, Ramsey (c.1940-1941) with Dr Werner Schaurite and the family of the donor's maternal grandfather, Dr Werner Gerlach and the donor's father Wolfgang Kittel.

HO396 card records him as Franz Lothar Hoensbroech, (born 27-3-89). Interned 14-11-40. It confirms that he was held at Dunluce House and records him as Refugee. Also 'repatriated' 8-3-42.
