Internee-made chess piece

Date made: 1940-1941

Description: A handcarved wooden chess piece made by Hans Schwarz, an internee in Peveril Internment Camp, Peel, in 1940-41. The chess piece appears to be the pawn and is a male figure with very short crewcut hair. Each chess piece appears to have been modelled on a specific individual, possibly a fellow internee or an officer, guard.

Measurements: overall: 3.8 cm x 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm
