Souvenir three-legged sailor teapot

Description: Sailor dressed in royal blue tunic with pale blue collar decorated with three leg symbols seated with his three legs on a coil of rope. Rope forms handle of teapot. Stamped on base Holdcroft and the number 12 is painted on in blue.
This item is typical of the way that the Manx triskele emblem of three legs found its way into all sorts of designs in the nineteenth century. It was evidently considered humorous in its own right for men to have three legs. This holiday souvenir would have been both decorative and practical. It would have looked well enough on a mantelpiece or window sill, or could have been used to serve tea.
