Game of tiddly winks won at a Girl Guide camp in 1916
Date made: 1916
Maker: unknown
Description: This game of tiddly winks in its original cardboard box was won as a prize by Beryl Bridson, of Harcroft, Douglas at St Matthew's Girl Guide camp, held at Port St Mary, 17 August 1916. The First World War affected the lives of children as well as adults, and organisations such as the scouts and guides reinforced ideas of duty and discipline, as well as loyalty to one's country. One of the guides who attended the camp, recalled afterwards that the girls were taught always to salute the Union Flag.
