Description: A naive watercolour showing two girls on a rustic bridge, possibly Glen Auldyn. The subjects are Jean and Chrissie Munro, the daughters of Sergeant William Munro, a soldier of the Gordon Highlanders and a guard at Knockaloe Camp. The girls were brought by their mother by rail and boat from Scotland for a holiday with their father in 1916. This apparently caused some unease in their village in Scotland, because of the danger such a journey represented. The family stayed at Pretoria Terrace, St Johns, for the duration of their holiday. Afterwards, one of the girls wrote an account of the holiday which was published in a national newspaper and which won a prize of a gold bracelet. Gold bracelet also held by MNH (MNH collection ID Number: 2013-0045).
