Description: A trial or sample piece from the yard of Thomas Quayle, stonemason of Douglas, Isle of Man, designed by Archibald Knox. This was part of a sample for a proposed memorial to Manx artist John Miller Nicholson. Knox executed many designs for gravestones and memorials on the Isle of Man.

It is part of a Knox design for a memorial to J M Nicholson. There were two pieces the other had gold leaf on part t of the raised section . Both were given to the Manx Museum by Tim Quayle along with other items from the family monumental mason business in the hopes they would set up such a yard in the folklife gallery. - Peter Kelly Report this
