Patrick Silver Armring Fragment
Date made: Viking: 800-1265
Description: During the Viking Age, pieces of jewellery could be used in place of numerous silver coins as payment for goods. This armring is one third of its original size and contains around 78% silver. The shape is known as penannular - a ring whose ends don't meet. This fragment is typical in size, shape, weight and silver content regularly used in Viking times as trading currency or stored wealth. Other similar examples have been found on the Isle of Man and they indicate a wealthy trading community a thousand years ago.
It was found in the west of the Isle of Man by Rob Middleton and declared Treasure Trove.
