Motorcycle helmet used by a fan at the 1979 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT)

Description: A motorcycle helmet worn by the vendor to the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) races as a fan. He came to the TT for many years in the 1970s and 80s. He was wearing this helmet when he fell off in the wet on the tramlines on the Mountain, which caused the damage. The paint job on the helmet was done by his fellow fan who was with him at the time, the front image being the cover of Queen's album 'A Night at the Opera', whilst that on the reverse is based on the cover artwork of the Motorhead album 'Overkill' released March 1979. Motorhead were closely associated with the TT at this time, having played the event on several occasions.
