Cream silk Waistcoat

Description: Waistcoat in cream silk with all over foliage pattern damasked and brocaded with stitched edges. Buttons of the split pear shape (the lowest is 1 7/8 inch from the bottom). Crescentric watch pocket and two other pockets. The bases of foreparts are lined with leather which indicates a date between 1845 and 1855. The tinned iron buckle is of a shape appearing about 1850. The shape of the buttons is characteristic of the 1850s. Metal buckles at the back of waistcoats were unknown before 1848.
