The Chasms and Spanish Head
Date made: September 1863
Artist: Wellbye, Henry Read
Description: "Our attention was engaged by the uncommon appearance of the Promontory called Spanish Head the profile of which forcibly reminded us of our late illustrious statesman the Right Honourable William Pitt. On a N.E. projecting point of the Calf and nearly opposite to Spanish Head we noticed another very marked profile which we thought not unlike a distinguished contemporary in the Opposition." (Samuel Dukinfield Swarbreck, Tour through the Isle of Man in July 1815 illustrated with views copied from original drawings made by Captain Latham R.L.M, M 07398)
A watercolour which is part of an album by Henry Read Wellbye, donors father, who is thought to have been on holiday on the Isle of Man in 1863 before his marriage.
