Description: “There are provided a number of small bathing machines, fitted upon wheels like carriages, and drawn by one horse, which, at the rate of 6d. per head, will at any time make an expedition with you, like Canute, into the deep, and there remain until you have safely splashed yourself to your utmost pleasure.” (William Bennet, Sketches of the Isle of Man, 1829, M 00896)
