Ramsey Wesleyan Mission Hall 'loving cup'
Date made: 1888
Description: Ramsey Wesleyan Mission Hall 'loving cup'
A 2 handled cup with inscription of 'Wesleyan Mission Hall, Ramsey' on it. The cup (trophy shaped) is known as a 'loving cup' used for communal sharing of a drink and was used in 'Love Feast' services by Methodists. This was a communal meal for lay members of a chapel rather than the communion service presided over by a minister. Six of these were produced for the Ramsey Wesleyan Mission Hall.
Loving cups and Love Feasts were a common feature of Methodist chapel life in the 19th century but disappeared in the 20th century.
