Pencil sketch from internment camp
Date made: 1940
Description: Pencil sketches produced by the donor's father Alfred Schwarzchild whilst en route to the Isle of Man, 1940 (he was a professional artist, forced to flee Germany by the Nazis). Sketches executed on lined exercise paper, double sided, one side showing prisoners behind barbed wire, a sunset etc. Other side shows a man speaking to another through an open window. One of the men may possibly be Schwarzchild. This also has a partial draft letter which reads "... in an internment camp room with me is Mr ___. He is rather ... because his wife can't get the ... help ... not pleased with being here ..."
