Pencil sketch from internment camp
Date made: 1940
Description: Pencil sketches produced by the donor's father Alfred Schwarzchild whilst interned on the Isle of Man, 1940 (he was a professional artist, forced to flee Germany by the Nazis). Group of pencil sketches on both sides of a piece of lined exercise paper. One side shows two men exercising under a camp watchtower. There is also a lot of text in German and English. On the reverse are doodle sketches.
One piece of text appears to be a draft letter, which begins:
"24 bedanken ____ 6L
Liebe Theo,
Wenn du es fur zeilding hatt genze diessem Brief ____ am 16.7 echat ich am 4.8 ____ Es freut mink dass is Haus wieder___ [more]"
